65613 RAHRAH RUG

Description

These exquisite flat-weave rugs, crafted by semi-nomadic artisans, stand distinct from their relatives, the Kilim. Each piece features a meticulously hand-woven construction with a polished front and an unfinished back, highlighting the artisanal technique involved in its creation. These rugs employ specialized hooks and needles during weaving, contributing to their distinctive construction. The design of these rugs is characterized by bold geometric patterns and symbolic representations including central diamonds, crosses, eyes, and animal motifs. Known variously as Soumakh, Sumac, Sumak or Soumac, these pieces originate from the western regions of Iran such as Kurdistan and Kermanshah as well as Turkey. The celebrated Rahrah design - often referred to as "the road" - incorporates natural dyes and embodies rich symbolism that reflects the nomadic heritage. We invite you to visit our showroom to explore this remarkable rug along with other unique rugs that celebrate traditional craftsmanship.
