These gorgeous flat-weave style rugs are woven by semi-nomadic weavers from the western part of Iran including Kurdistan, Turkey and Kermanshah. Different than their cousins, the Kilim, they have a beautiful front and a ragged back. Made with special hooks and needles, you can easily see the woven construction. You can find Central diamonds, cross, eye and other animal motifs in geometric designs. These Soumak designs also known as Soumakh, Sumac, Sumak and Soumac. The Rahrah design means “road”. It is made with natural dyes and share the rich symbolism representing the nomadic lives.
