It was the "Tekke" nomadic tribespeople that created the first Bokhara rugs. These gorgeous rugs originate from the Bokhara region of modern-day Uzbekistan. The distinctive geometric patterns of octagon, oval or diamond shaped motifs makes for a highly symbolic rug. The Tekke tribe also borrowed designs from the Salor tribe which was part of the Bokhara region of Central Asia.
