65752 QASHQAI RUG

These rugs are made by some of the most skilled pastoral nomads of the Zagros Mountains. They migrate their sheep and goat flocks in specific seasons. Dating back centuries, over 400,000 Qashqai peoples still live in Iran today. The women of these tribes wear bright floral colors and decorative clothing pieces. The Qashqai (also known as Kashgai, Ghashghai, and Gaschgai) wool rugs have a silky quality, a beautiful weave and jewel-toned colors like reds, blues, shades of navy. Woven with a Persian knot on a wool foundation, the knot count can be from 70 to over 170 knots per square inch. One of the most prominent designs of the Qashqai artisans is the diamond medallion. You may also see people figures, flowers, animals and birds in the main field of these rugs. The original rugs were woven without the help of a pattern, all built from memory.
