The city of Hereke is situated on the north shore of Ismit Bay, in Northwest Turkey. These rugs were once made in the workshops of “Abdulmed”, the Ottoman Sultan. He had a huge palace in the mid-1800’s and wanted only the finest rugs. The Hereke rug represents some of the most lavish and large carpets of the time. Only the best carpet weavers were utilized during the time and today represent some of the finest area rugs available which makes them highly collectible. These lustrous rugs are made with wool on cotton or silk on cotton.
