The Great Seljuk Empire began in the 11th century. These mostly Turko-Persian peoples created one of the richest and most inventive times in Turkish culture. In the 13th century, the Seljuks ruled Anatolia, also known as Turcomania. The Seljuks made gorgeous rugs. Even Marco Polo noted that these rugs were very beautiful with allover designs, some with rows of medallions or allover floral designs. The borders of these area rugs often represented Islamic calligraphic patterns as well as geometric animal designs. The Seljuk rug at Ruby rugs is 100% handspun wool and natural dyes. Made in Pakistan.
