65095 HEREKE RUG

The city of Hereke is situated on the north shore of Ismit Bay, in Northwest Turkey.  Once made in the workshops of the Ottoman Sultan named Abdulmed for his huge palace in the mid-1800’s, the Hereke rug represents some of the lavish and large carpets of the time.  Only the best carpet weavers were utilized during the time and today represent some of the finest area rugs available which makes them highly collectible.  Made with wool on cotton or silk on cotton.
