65012 ARYANA GANDHARA

The original Aryana rug was woven by nomadic Turkish and Mogul tribes and was mostly geometric.  We’ve added the word “Gandhara” which is an old word given to the land and civilization in northern Pakistan and Afghanistan from the mid first millennium BC to the beginning of the second millennium BC.  Today, we see these rugs in both geometric and curvelinear patterns, which are characterized by beautiful handspun wool and natural dyes including walnut husk, indigo, kesuphul, ousparak and pomegranate.  Another characteristic of these beautiful area rugs is the soft “abrashness” in the wool, which shows slight variation of color.  The Aryana Gandhara carpet at Ruby Rugs is sophisticated, soft, elegant and very pleasing to the senses.
