custom area rugs New Zealand wool

Considered to be the rug world’s most durable and the most popular fibers, it has been used for thousands of years. This fiber is 100% natural, flame retardant and naturally stain resistant.

Thanks to lanolin, an all natural oil found in wool, a natural stain barrier is created, thus it is easy to clean. Because we use only the very best New Zealand wool, there is very little to no shedding and colors render beautifully with incredible style and vibrancy.

custom area rugs mill spun silk

Made by the mulberry silkworm known as Bombyx mori, these eco-friendly rugs usually have higher knot count than their wool cousins.

Mill spun simply means that fiber is machine spun.  Handspun means that it is spun by hand.  Two different looks in the final product.

The reason for this is the fiber is finer and creates and ultra soft finished product. Additionally, Silk is well known for its sheen and magnificent vibrancy in rugs. Silk can be used in portions or in design elements of a custom area rug or can be used entirely. Either way, silk creates an exceptional look in a room.

custom rugs bamboo silk

Bamboo silk is considererd to be a cellulose fiber and it is extracted from natural bamboo. Similar to viscose, both are almost identical in their appearance and even the most experienced will find it difficult to tell the difference.

Furthermore, this soft and silk fiber creates a beautiful and luxurious look in rugs and with proper care, will last a very long time. This fiber is also very good for those who are allergic to wool or animals.

Viscose is considered to be both natural and synthetic, as it is a man-made cellulose fiber extracted from natural wood pulp. Similar to bamboo silk, both are almost identical in their appearance. Even the most experienced rug and textile expert will find it difficult to tell the difference.

This soft and silk fiber creates a beautiful and luxurious look in rugs and with proper care, will last a very long time. Additionally, this fiber is also very good for those who are allergic to wool or animals.

custom rugs tencel

What is Tencel™?  Originally called Lyocell in the 1970s, this cellulose fiber is produced by an environmentally responsible process from sustainably sourced natural raw material wood.  You can find these fibers in the collections of many popular designers and retailers.

The fiber is known for being luxuriously soft and having high flexibility.  This biodegradable botanic fiber has long lasting softness and silkiness. In addition, it retains dyes well providing great color.

custom area rugs sari silk

It is well known that the traditional garment worn by many women in India is called a Sari.  However, did you know that it is a Sanskrit word for “strip of cloth”?

Recycled sari yarn is made from 100% silk sari material, made from the remnants of sari material that wasn’t used in the sewing.  Thankfully, this material is salvaged and used in a very positive, useful and absolutely gorgeous way!  Furthermore, rugs made with sari silk are vibrant in color and make a real statement.

custom area rugs hemp

This uber earth-friendly natural fiber is very durable with gorgeous deep brown and coppery tones. The beauty of hemp is that it grows naturally without pesticides or chemicals. It grows 150 times faster than trees! The purchasing of hemp products is excellent choice for the environment.  This fiber is great for outdoor rugs as well!

custom rugs allo nettle

Although this fiber has been used for hundreds of years in Nepal it is relatively new in the use of handmade area rugs.  Considered the “King of Natural fibers” in Nepal, and mostly harvested in the middle hills of Nepal, it can be produced into many different products including handwoven area rugs and also outdoor rugs.

Allo or Himalayan nettle, one of the longest known fibers is more durable and elastic than linen and even stronger than sisal rugs.  Nettle fabric gets better with washing thus your rug will just get better and better over time.

Transit, Delivery and Installation

Transit, Delivery and Installation

Depending on the size and weight of your finished custom area rug(s), this can effect transit time. Rugs that are 10×14 or larger may have longer transit times due to customs and weight factors. Usually customs clears quickly. However, sometimes things can get caught in transition. We will inform you every step of the way. The rug is delivered to our Berkeley showroom where we thoroughly inspect the rug. Once we are happy with the inspection, we deliver your beautiful new rug to your home.

Approve the Strikeoff of your rug

Approve the Strikeoff of your rug

In the custom area rug process, the strikeoff is a small rug, approximately a 2′ x 2′ portion of the design produced for your approval. It is made from the CAD drawing that was supplied to the weaver on our specialized software. This usually takes 2 weeks, but sometimes due to weather or other conditions can take 4 weeks. When the strikeoff returns to our showroom, we inspect it first and then contact you for your approval. This is the best opportunity to see if your colors are correct.
